2012 Frequently Asked Questions

We reserve the right to make additions and changes to the information below.

Once again CastleTV.net and the California Browncoats will be teaming up to host the Castle Fan Charity Convention, November 17-18, 2012.

In 2011 the event was attended by Castle cast members Seamus Dever, Jon Huertas and Tamala Jones and Castle creator Andrew W Marlowe and writer/producer Terri Miller.  There were two Q&A sessions with the guests on stage and fans had the opportunity to ask questions. Fans also had the opportunity to meet the guests during autograph and/or photo sessions and those with Gold tickets attended the meet and greet lunch and had time casually talk to each of the guests.  The 2011 event was a huge success raising more than $15,000 for charity.

California Browncoats

California Browncoats is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of the Firefly and Serenity fandom, cast and crew through charitable work. They can be found doing good works at conventions throughout California including events like San Diego Comic Con and Wondercon. Since their inception in June 2007 they have raised well over $100,000 for various charities including Equality Now, Kids Need to Read, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation (MC-LEF), Waterkeeper Alliance and The Al Wooten Center.

More information can be found at their website: www.californiabrowncoats.org

What charities will you be supporting?

After paying costs associated with running the event all money from the event will be donated to charities nominated by our VIP guests. All staff involved with the event are volunteering their time. Information on supported charities will be posted on the charities page as it becomes available.

When will I receive my ticket?

We will not mail out tickets, you will be required to pick your tickets up at the event. Bring Photo ID and a copy of your purchase receipt.

Is there an age limit?

All children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Can I use my camera?

No video or audio recording is allowed during the event without prior written approval from us. We hope to provide a DVD or online video of the panels for a minimal fee (to cover expenses) after the event.

You may take still photos during Q&A sessions. Flashes may only be used for the first five minutes, after that you must disable your flash if you wish to continue taking photos. You may not take photos to be used for commercial purposes.

We know you’ll be eager to post your photos online after the event but please be considerate and try to post those that present our guests looking their best (eg, avoid posting photos with bad expressions, while drinking etc).  Rule of Thumb: If it was a photo of you that someone else took is it one you would choose to post online for everyone to see?

You may NOT ask guests to pose for photos. Everyone will have the opportunity to purchase official photo opportunities with yourself and each of the guests taken by our event photographer James Riley. This is for the benefit of all attendees and our guests.

You may NOT take photos during the autograph session as this slows down the process and we don’t want people to miss out on their autographs because we run out of time.

What can I get autographed?

In person autographs from our guests are available to purchase (some autographs are included in the Gold & Priority ticket packages).

We will have limited items available to purchase for you to have autographed by our guests or you can have our guests autograph any official Castle merchandise (eg, dvds, books, graphic novel, posters).  You may also have your photo op autographed, printed photographs or pictures (no inappropriate manips) or bring other items to be signed.

No inappropriate items will be allowed and guests will not sign body parts. If you are unsure if your item is suitable please contact us in advance.

Our guests may have their own preference for items they will or won’t sign, we will do our best to notify you of any such issues in advance.

Can I bring gifts for the guests?

If you really feel the need to give our guests a gift we would encourage you to make a charitable donation in their name. You will have the opportunity to do this at the event and you may also request a gift card that will include details of your donation and space for you to write a note to the guest. This gift card can be presented to them during the autograph session.

We strongly discourage you bringing gifts for the guests but if you have a personal item (drawing etc) or something special that you really want to give you may do so but all gifts must be unwrapped so that they may be checked by one of our staff to prevent anything inappropriate or dangerous being handed over, if you are unsure if something might be appropriate please contact us in advance to check.

You may NOT under any circumstances try to present a gift during the Q&As or any part of the event aside from the autograph sessions, all gifts will be checked by a staff member first.

Notes on Appropriate Behavior

You must at all times behave in a manner respectful to our guests, hotel staff, volunteer staff and fellow attendees.

Please remember to be patient while waiting in lines, everyone is as eager to interact with the guests as you are and being rude to other attendees or volunteer staff won’t get you anywhere.

During the convention you are not allowed to make any kind of request of the guests including inviting them to events, asking them for favors, asking them to phone a friend etc.

When asking questions please be prepared and think out your question in advance so you know what you want to say. Do not take up valuable question time by rambling, try to get straight to your question.

Please do not ask guests about personal issues and avoid political or religious questions as these tend to make people uncomfortable.

When meeting any celebrity it is vitally important that you remember that to them you are a complete stranger.  You may feel like you know them and have a relationship with them but the harsh reality is you are a stranger to them and not their friend.  Please remember that you should always be polite and don’t try get physical.  Think about how you would feel if a stranger walked up and hugged you or slapped you on the backside or said something inappropriate.

If we discover evidence (during or after the event) that you have disregarded this rule you may be banned from future events.

Any attendee acting in an abusive fashion to another person will be asked to leave. If you are removed from the event you will not be entitled to any refund.
